Yaoi, also known as BL (boys love) is a genre of pornography largely which depicts two or more male characters participating in sexual relationships, it is mostly consumed and produced by female teenage girls and young women who are fans of anime, and manga (Who often are themselves fangirls. And sometimes even Femcels (even though they often don't know, or don't want to identify as such). Although it also is consumed by a small portion of gay, and bisexual males as well. as well as some incels such as Bicels.
Characters typically are depicted as more feminine, and usually act unlike males at all, which, while not all males act the same, are always made to be much less like men (and often times act purely feminine).
Usually, the writing of said male characters often is unrealistic, and their gender will often be ignored, with many characters in yaoi and fanfiction made to express emotion and preform actions act just like traditional females. And usually participate in sex only after large amounts of romantic affection. As opposed to most sexuality by and for men where sexual activity is usually much more center-stage.
Fans typically are considered “fujoshis” (which translates to rotten girl) which was a name originally coined by sites like 2chan due to their toxicity such behavior. This name eventually was “reclaimed” by yaoi fangirls and now is often used to refer to each other. Eventually, the name Fudanshi (rotten boy) was made and was applied to males fans. Fujoshis also are a type of fangirl subgroup and often intersect between each other.
Gaycel males and bicels may also known to consume such media, with bicels sometimes doing it out of a mix of homosexual interest, an interest in both masculinity and femininity, curiosity, and social isolation from opposite sex. However many gay people often tend not to like such things, seeing it as inaccurate to actual gay male experiences and represents replicate male-female gender norms but with the "woman" of the relationship typically being an extremely feminine “male”, and have made their own genre by gay men for gay men. known as bara, where traditional gender roles are not prevalent and sexual activity is more common.
Although they often have to hide their male gender identities in fear of being ostracized, being accused of being a pervert, creep, and/or a fake-bisexual/gay person, alternatively they may instead be harassed and fetishized by their gayness and swarmed by screeching fangirls who will quite possibly, and harassed, or shipped with other men regardless of interest. bicels and gaycels are typically forced to have to hide their inceldom as well, as many fujoshis are known to organize on neo-liberal politically-correct sites like tumblr, and twitter, and align themselves with feminism and anyone openly deviating from the status-quo is often seen as sexist.
Many fujoshis often fail to understand boundaries between fiction and reality with many commonly seen sexualising real people. And often express fantasies of said people to go through things such as rape and BDSM. With many fangirls known to harass said real people often with inappropriate remarks such as asking two male friends to make out in public for their pleasure. Even though such actions are obviously homofetishist fujoshis will deny that it is, often acting like their fiction is pro-gay rights, because somehow, treating gay people like a plot-device to express women’s various sexual fantasies supports gay rights.
Many also draw yaoi of fictional characters, often writing stories. Sometimes this is of canonically evil, sadistic, psychopathic or murderous characters.
Despite this, many also are known to attack male sexuality, considering them pervertsdespiter having similar interests, and many (especially on tumblr, and twitter) accuse porn, hentai, incest, and lolicon as simulating and promoting real life illegal activity such as rape against women, pedophelia and torture,(this is also despite the fact many fujoshis also like the exact same things such as but with the genders swapped, such as with shotacons (which are the male equivalent of lolicon and usually express similar rape fantasies, except the one being raped is also a male) Some also are known to use concepts such as DDLG but replace the "women" of such stories with an uke male being the "daughter" of the relationship and the seme being the father. This also is known to be a somewhat common trope in female made fanfiction.
Now considering that this type of female-interested pornography, here are some of the reasons why this type is so common and popular.
Many women often dislike seeing female characters, either self-insert or otherwise in romance stories, cartoons, anime, etc. to be in a relationship with a male character. Many women tend to be jealous when male characters, even bi-sexual ones show affections or are in an open-relationship with a woman. That, added to the fact that many are straight, they often force stories characters into a ship even when the cannon goes against it as to suit their fantasy.
It also may be used as a way to express womens sexual fantasies which they feel uncomfortable with, often via shame in society by imprinting such fantasies on a feminine male, which the woman can insert-themselves into. This is why one character in a ship often is more traditionally masculine, (seme) and is on-top, while the other is more traditionally femminine, (uke)and has to take whatever the seme does with them. this would explain why such women often express hatred towards things such as hentai and the numerous fetishes in things like porn, such as rape, but will, often consume the same material when said rape is on a feminine (uke) male, because secretly, they like such fetishes themselves but don't want to admit it. possibly because they don't want to be seen as a slut by other woman and society. And will attack men who share similar fantasies as to justify to themselves their own fantasies and re-enforce the very slut-shaming they have been given.
Fetishization of Homosexuality
Many women often are not fond of straight men, and often prefer gays as they are seen by women as more emotional, kind, caring, compassionate and loving, and often see straight men as perverts, creeps, rapists, and have less humanity. Many secretly at least to some extent are afraid of men often see gay guys as unlike other guys, with many women often treating said gay people like an accessory. Much to the detriment of gaycels and bicels. Who often do not want to be used in such a way and often can lead them to inceldom.
