Peacocking, also called intrasexual competition, refers to efforts (if heterosexual) to impress members of the opposite sex. Since men are generally regarded in western society to push the initiative, such flirting typically follows a "the man impressing the woman" format. In more traditional societies, one may not only need to impress the woman, but her parents (and maybe even her other male relatives such as brothers) too. male peacocking may involve demonstrating an ability to provide, being adapt at financial aspects, being competent at manliness, being genetically fit, etc. Female peacocking may involve displaying sexually dismorphic traits, beauty, gossip, and bullying.
