The Scientific Anti-Blackpill is about debunking the blackpill.

Science already debunks the blackpill, we don't need to make anything new, but we link to the relevant studies that do the debunking. The scientific anti-blackpill is also anti-bluepill.

Personality[edit]

Nice guys have better relationships[edit]

In the most comprehensive study to date, researchers associated with Michigan State University’s Close Relationships Lab found that dating apps fail with compatibility because they try to focus on qualities other than being nice.

William J. Chopik and Richard E. Lucas studied many dimensions of personality traits within relationships. They found that having a partner who is nice resulted in greater relationship satisfaction. However, having a partner that is not nice or neurotic resulted in lower relationship satisfaction.

Men sexually prefer psychopathy, not women. Psychopaths are successful because of marketing skills (not necessarily confidence)[edit]

Some studies have claimed that undergraduate women preferentially sexually select dark triad men as short term sexual partners,[1][2][3]

These studies are limited by the fact that they only studied undergraduate women in countries where the age of longer-term pairbonding is often in the 30s. And the studies were only geared toward short term relations. In other words, undergraduate sluts prefer assholes, who knew!
Great blackpill /sarcasm.

More broader studies involving adult women and scientifically controllable things like face morphs, present a different picture.

For example, recent high-profile study by Alyson E Blanchard measured female preference of men based on face morphs coupled with biographies of the men (not dissimilar to dating app studies incels use). They concluded that men probably sexually prefer dark triad traits more so than women and the women were less sexually attracted to psychopathy than men.[4] In particulary, the study found that men are particularly attracted to borderline personality disorder traits.

The contrast in the results of studies may be because while women don't innately prefer dark triad men, dark triad men have a higher level of superficial charm and thus high ability to deceive others regarding their interpersonal characteristics. The contrast may also be due to the fact that most women today are not short term maters.

It is frequently claimed that Dark Triad men are more attractive to women, not out of an overt female preference for "bad boys", but because they have a higher level of superficial charm and thus high ability to deceive others regarding their interpersonal characteristics: V. Mehta notes:[5]

Carter and his colleagues offer two possible explanations. First, sexual selection might be at work. This would mean that women are responding to signals of “male quality” when it comes to reproduction. And with respect to short-term mating, women may be drawn to ‘bad boys’, who demonstrate confidence, stubbornness, and risk-taking tendencies. Second, sexual conflict may be at play. The investigators state that “Women may be responding to DT men’s ability to ‘sell themselves’; a useful tactic in a co-evolutionary ‘arms race’ in which men convince women to pursue the former’s preferred sexual strategy.” They note that like a “used-car dealer,” Dark Triad men may be effective charmers and manipulators, furthering their success at short-term mating. The authors are also careful to note that though women rated the DT character as comparatively more attractive, it does not necessarily mean that they would have sex with them.

Altruistic, generous men have more dating partners and casual sex than non-altruists[edit]

A metastudy by Steven Arnocky, Tina Piché, Graham Albert, Danielle Ouellette, and Pat Barclay found multiple studies which showed that altruistic men have more sexual partners and casual sex than the more stingy and non-altruistic men.

In two studies, we show that altruism is broadly linked with mating success. In Study 1, participants who scored higher on a self-report altruism measure reported they were more desirable to the opposite sex, as well as reported having more sex partners, more casual sex partners, and having sex more often within relationships.

—Altruism predicts mating success in humans [6]

The results involved women looking for long-term pairbonding, and wasn't effected by ovulatory shifts.

Personality matters for mating and reproduction in men[edit]

Dr Whyte gathered data from the online Australian Sex Survey of 2016 to determine who has sex and who doesn’t. Turns out, staying in your basement finding cherry picked studies about how looks matter does not correlate to mating success. Dr Whyte found that instead, extraversion is positively associated with mating success and reproduction (more likely to have children) in men. Lower levels of agreeableness were associated with greater sexual frequency in men, particularly when paired with high levels of extraversion, suggesting there is some truth to the idea that women like assholes. Alternatively, being lower in agreeableness may be generally linked to higher levels of mating effort and a short-term mating orientation in men, coupled with a lower tendency to be engaged in long-term partnerships, where sexual frequency is known to decline over time.

For both men and women, extraversion equated to greater sexual frequency.

Optimists have much longer, more satisfying relationships than pessimists[edit]

Many in the manosphere adopt a position that being negative makes one see the world more clearly, but in reality they are mostly sabatoging themselves while also often arriving at false conclusions through thinking, 'negative = true'. A peer-reviewed study by Sanjay Srivastava PHD, Kelly M. McGonigal, Jane M. Richards, and Emily A. Butler found that pessimists fare very poorly in relationship satisfaction and duration as compared to their optimistic counterparts.

The researchers hypothesized this was true because optimists tend to view conflict in a relationship or hardships in their life as a temporary affair rather than a law of nature, letting them overcome their obstacles more quickly and not make a situation worse for themselves or others.

Optimists and their partners both experienced greater overall relationship satisfaction, optimists and their partners saw themselves and each other as engaging more positively in the conflict and as reaching a better resolution. [We also] found that the relationships of male optimists lasted longer than the relationships of male pessimists.

Hypergamy[edit]

The sexual revolution caused women to marry more within their social class[edit]

Proponents often justify a bunk theory that the sexual revolution caused incels by stating the sexual revolution has caused women to marry above their social class more than before the sexual revolution. This is provably false.

For example, according to a study by the Bonn Institute for the Study of Labor, since the 1960s, people have generally married more, not less, within their class, as measured by education level.

This does not mean women aren't hypergamous, it also does not mean that hypergamy doesn't cause inceldom, but it does mean that the sexual revolution contributed less to hypergamy than blackpillers think. It is likely hypergamy was always a problem for incels, and the sexual revolution is not to blame for hypergamy existing. It is possible that the sexual revolution increased inceldom for those over 30 due to women marrying less, however, women often choose not to marry for reasons other than pool of available men. The onus is on blackpillers to prove that the sexual revolution increased female hypergamy, due to the burden of proof.

Looks[edit]

Face[edit]

Most of the time women prefer average, not super manly faces[edit]

Researchers Penton-Voak Ph.D. and Perrett Ph.D. conducted a study in which they manipulated computer generated composite faces of men and showed them to women. They adjusted for sexual dimorphism, creating faces with big defined jaws, and ones with more feminine jaws. Turned out the ones that were most attractive to women were not the most manly to women not ovulating.

The researchers found that when women were not ovulating, they preferred average male faces. And given your average and admirable local slut is on birth control, that means that she too will prefer men with average faces, not super masculine faces.

Body[edit]

Working out increases your chances of being sexually successful[edit]

Some particularly vocal blackpillers state that only face matters and that gymcels are coping. This is false. For example, according to a study by UCLA, men who are muscular are more likely to have more short-term sexual partners and are also more likely to have affairs with mated women. Women were also interviewed in regards to the traits of both their most recent partner and their most recent short-term ('hook-up') sexual partner. For women whose most recent partner was also their most recent short-term partner, the second to last partner was used instead. Women's short-term partners were generally more muscular than their most recent partner, and they also reported lower levels of trust and romance in these relationships.

Muscular men reported more lifetime sex partners, more short-term sex partners, and more affairs with mated women at significant or marginally significant levels.

Dating[edit]

Men are generally more lookist than women when evaluating potential long term partners[edit]

It is a common trope on incel forums to insinuate that women are much more shallow than men in terms of their preference for physical attractiveness in their romantic partners. This is probably false. For example, a study by Pamela C. Regan and Ellen Berscheid of 70 men and women, rating 23 characteristics in sexual and marital desirability found that men cared more about the looks of a potential marriage partner. In other words, women cared less about looks than men did as far as long-term relationships go.

As predicted, men more than women preferred a physically attractive marriage partner

Wife sharing[edit]

Wife-sharers are more happy with their marriage than the general married population[edit]

Bergstrand & Williams (2001) did an extensive study of swingers for the Electronic Journal of Human Sexuality. In their study of thousands of swingers, they found that marriages that could be characterized as “open marriages”, were more satisfied marriages than the general population.

In their study Bergstrand & Williams found that 78.5% of swingers reported being very happy with their relationship, while only 64% of the general married population said the same.

Also, 62.6% of swingers swingers reported that swinging improved their relationship, and only 1.7% reported being less happy.

Swinging tends to improve the perceived quality of the couples' marriages regardless of how satisfying it was before swinging
—Bergstrand & Williams

The swinging respondents who showed this big increase in happiness were primarily male, meaning swinging is not anti-male.

Wife-sharers are more self-satisfied than the general population[edit]

Many memes in the incelosphere portray a male wife-sharer as weak, effeminate, and unconfident. Science differs on the subject. For example a large study published in The Social Science Journal found that wife-sharers actually have higher self-esteem than non-wife-sharers. They also mentioned the broader scientific literature.

Utilizing the Rosenburg self-esteem scale, the self-esteem of swingers was quantified and compared to the general sample. Consistent with qualitative research on the phenomenon, swingers do appear to have high self-esteem.

Sluts[edit]

The vast majority of extremely slutty women are happy[edit]

It is a common blackpill statement that female sluts are mostly miserable. (for example here and here, or they use mostly uncited memes like here)

This is false.

The best data on female promiscuity and happiness comes from General Social Survey (GSS) data interpreted by the Institute for Family Studies. In their analysis of GSS data, 84% of the most promiscuous 5% of women polled were happy. Even though there is a 5% greater prevalence of unhappy individuals who are extremely promiscuous than the rest of women, the vast majority of the most extremely promiscuous women are happy.

Women have been less promiscuous since the sexual revolution[edit]

Blackpillers often assert a false narrative that women are becoming not only more promiscuous, but very promiscuous, compared to prior generations. This is probably false.

According to a study by Nicholas H. Wolfinger for the Institute of Family Studies, young men and young men women are having less overall sexual partners than Boomers and Gen X did at their age. In other words, both women and men have been less promiscuous over time. In order to look at this trend in detail, Nicholas analyzed promiscuity in relation to educational status and found that non-college educated women in particular have seen a steady decline in promiscuity since the 1970s.

The only subgroup of women he found being particularly more promiscuous over time were the already promiscuous top 5% of women, in other words, the types of women blackpillers focus on on Tinder apps.

This finding was confirmed by secondary sources as well.[7]

However, it is true that younger women are acting more slutty, despite not necessarily being so in the strict sense.

Marriage[edit]

Having children makes women slightly more unhappy[edit]

Many self-described blackpilled incels want kids, and they also often maintain that deferring from traditional genders roles leads to pervasive unhappiness among women. And so it is a common blackpill talking point that “childless women are unhappy” and thus driven to antidepressants, i.e. here and here.

Again, we can look to General Social Survey data (GSS), to find out if this is true. And it’s not.

For women, having kids is associated with a 3 or 4 percentage point decline in happiness that’s marginally significant (p < .10).

Politics[edit]

Getting bullied makes people more left-wing, not right-wing[edit]

A lot of the media likes to characterize the bullied as all being Social Darwinist types, or a bunch of racist libertarians and other assorted right-wing, anti-socialist ideologies. A lot of blackpill forums feed off this caricature by adopting a bunch of right-wing avatars while complaining about bullying. But, this is a bit far from reality. The opposite is in fact, the case. Being bullied makes people more left-wing and egalitarian. According to a study by Atsushi Yamagishi from the peer-reviewed Economics of Education Review, people who are bullied are up to 7% more likely to support government measures to redistribute resources to the needy.

Being bullied at school has a strong positive association with support for redistribution in adulthood. [...] I estimate that the bullied are 5–7 percentage points more likely to support redistribution
