Edits 10/20/19[edit]

An unknown edit broke mobile (text was going off screen) so I copied old CSS back into it. Fixed. William (talk) 00:40, 21 October 2019 (UTC)

Previous description table[edit]

that Bibipi made had serious mobile issues with text coming off page, had to copy the entire old one because couldn't find source of issue William (talk) 18:27, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

Had fixed this on an earlier day, but apparently it only fixed half the page, now all of it is fixedWilliam (talk) 18:27, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

Why are some websites blocked?[edit]

For example Twitter. Bibipi (talk) 05:58, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Spam prevention extension included in Mediawiki (by default I think), only Randy can fix that, however the links work if you remove https:// William (talk) 13:13, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Various suggestions[edit]

  1. Demography of Those Affected => not clear what affected means, so better "Demography of inceldom"
  2. The Discord link lacks a descriptive title.
  3. I think we should link Decile and Blackpill as those are pretty central pages. Gymcel, BBC Theory and Heightpill could be removed in return as they are more specialized terms.
  4. Rename Glossary link to Incel jargon glossary? The entire page could be moved there.
  5. No need to make "List of Active Incel Forums" bold, likewise with "List of wanted pages", "Improving stubs". Changes of boldness give the page a more rugged appearance.

Kind of want to change the image[edit]

to change the image of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec I put there to some other image, as it seems a bit pretentious/cringy. Open to suggestions.William (talk)

I think the pic is good. Why do you think it's bad? Bibipi (talk) 08:13, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Please unblock such that I can edit[edit]

I want to add the new Discord link and improve some minor things. There is no need to keep this blocked. Bibipi (talk) 21:53, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Discord link is updated. If you want to redesign the page, please create a draft at :User:Bibipi/Main Page, or for the header like you did previously. I don't like edit wars or endless negotiation on the main page. Too exhausting. Best to perfect a draft first if it must be done and submit drafts for merge infrequently by linking it here. You are good at mediawiki and know how to draft pages properly.William (talk) 12:44, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
Ok. Bibipi (talk) 18:09, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Thinking of using Varnish[edit] as an HTTP caching proxy to make pages load faster, like Wikipedia does.Jake (talk) 17:10, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Might take a while though because I would use it for all my sites.Jake (talk) 17:10, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Mediawiki 1.35[edit]

All wikis and extensions are now tracking and autoupdating via the REL1_35 GitHub branch, rather than tarballs, which makes my life easier.Jake (talk) 17:12, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

How do you do this?!?? --Proofreader (talk) 22:40, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
With Git and cron mostly. Github has a REL1_35 stable branch you can clone with 'git clone --single-branch --branch REL1_35 repository', and pull with 'git pull' and then automate that with cron Jake (talk) 05:46, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
No miracles?!?? *lol*
WikiMANNias structure is quite complex due to six language and one media installation. We have a script, which makes most of the job. But still I have a problem merge some custom entries to i18n files. This is to have also the sidebar translated. And I don't like autoupdating because if something is going bad, you are done. So I download new versions manually, run the skript and when testing. If it fails, we can restore the old version in seconds…
Do you know a solution to merge i18n files with command line instructions? --Proofreader (talk) 14:25, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
If there's an error I would just go to a previous git commit and restore from a daily backup, but that is probably not going to happen on a stable branch. If I were using the alpha branch maybe... Can't you just point the installations to one directory so it shares the i18n files, of symlink it to each installation? My installations just share those files (and every other file besides LocalSettings and images). Jake (talk) 14:52, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
"probably not going to happen" is the standard phrase before a crash… ;-) I do not trust automatisms!
Yes, we share the i18n files. Our skript do pushing files around and doing symlink and all stuff. Only the merge of the i18n files we didn't figure out. Simple solution is to not update the i18n files and skip that part.
But I want to have a look that every thing is OK. So I prefer to start the updating process manually. --Proofreader (talk) 15:29, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
We do NOT delete anything. We do a brand new installation under a new folder i.e. de_wiki_new, add some extensions, then duplicate this for each language plus one for the WikiMANNia media commons. Then we copy the image folder and the localsetting files from each old installation into the corresponding new one. After completing this i.e. de_wiki is renamed into de_wiki_old and de_wiki_new into de_wiki.
If something goes wrong the recovering process is only rename some folders. --Proofreader (talk) 16:25, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

Just installed this extension[edit] Jake (talk) 19:23, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

New Dark theme[edit]

In preferences --> gadgets

It's just for editors, and will never be default. At some point may make it so visitors can switch to it with PHP ala runescape wiki or something Jake (talk) 16:45, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

Turk Wiki[edit]

Was empty and barren, only 2 articles, and so it had to go. The German, Italian, and Hebrew versions will stay up forever. Jake (talk) 06:40, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Mobile redesign[edit]

The mobile version was completely redesigned. It is not meant to be edited on. It has not yet been tested on iPads but it works great on phones and iPhones. Jake (talk) 06:40, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

heart moved down to /top on English[edit]

Don't want to make any drastic changes for a while because we're growing on Google and:

That new meta description on main page you made[edit]

Internal Mediawiki File Cache won't cache Main_Page on some of our wikis.[edit]

Meaning if file cache is turned on in LocalSettings.php, typing in won't redirect to Main_Page in the URI (But it will display the page). And it's not due to wikitext or content on Main_Page. It's probably a database issue???, because older databases don't have the issue, but I can't figure it out, even after browsing the database in MySQL Workbench. It's not a huge issue, it just means that we aren't going to cache pages on the server until it's figured out, and only cache on Cloudflare. Jake (talk) 18:34, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

It just means like a 0.2 second slowdown and I'm a perfectionist so it bothers me. I could fix it by just doing a wikiteam backup and then restoring from that, but I don't want to do something that drastic right now Jake (talk) 18:36, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
The default Mediawiki file cache option is "off", so it's not a huge issue, I just liked having it on Jake (talk) 18:37, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Having templates look like Wikipedia ones is just funny[edit]

So that's why we're doing it Jake (talk) 20:11, 15 October 2020 (UTC) And also why we're using their exact skins Jake (talk) 20:11, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Gonna test out other mobile skins[edit]

Going to test other Mobile skins for compatibility with our custom templates and embedvideo. Desktop will remain vector because it's nice, but mobile will change away from Minerva probably. Also need to test the skins for speed, if Minerva is by far the fastest we might stay with it and further hack it Jake (talk) 14:25, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

site should be a bit faster/responsive now[edit]

changed the php-fpm settings and its a bit better now Jake (talk) 20:19, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Extension:Popups is back[edit]

had it off for a while while configuring cache stuffJake (talk) 02:29, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Main Page Category CSS change[edit]

In the previous version, the categories got stretched out too much on widescreens, so added a width to it again. Also, the other changes make it look better on mobile Jake (talk) 05:20, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

We hit record page views today[edit]

yay Jake (talk) 15:12, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

We're on a custom forked Vector skin now[edit]

here: Jake (talk) 22:33, 15 May 2021 (BST) Changed the z-index structure of the page to a 3 column inline-block setup. Added a right-sidebar, which currently has the fake ad. And made language selection appear on top of Main_Page by default. Jake (talk) 17:38, 30 May 2021 (BST)

We're on a custom forked Discord extension again[edit]

here: Jake (talk) 17:38, 30 May 2021 (BST) Because Mediawiki 1.37 needed special code

the spanish wiki is being vandalished[edit]

The new users of the spanish wiki are making no-sense and stupid articles with no relation with incel topics -- 19:51, 8 September 2021 (BST)

Recent content was deleted. It's a wiki, it's for people to edit if they want. Due to drama, edits are off temporarily. If someone competent wants to admin it, let us know here or on IRC, thanks :) Jake (talk) 15:14, 9 September 2021 (BST)

Incel Wiki:Main Page/Section-4R[edit]

Making that section into a table broke mobile, so had to revert. It looked nice though on Desktop. Might at some point figure out how to make it only appear on Desktop, if no one does before me. Jake (talk) 23:07, 14 September 2021 (BST)

Unfortunately, this does not work in this wiki:

  1. This will not be displayed in desktop/full browsers, only in mobile browsers.
  2. This will not be displayed in mobile browsers, only in desktop/full browsers.

--Proofreader (talk) 23:55, 14 September 2021 (BST)

Right now it displays on both though I think. We can shorten it though. Jake (talk) 11:16, 15 September 2021 (BST)
